We gathered votes from students around the school to find out which 6th-grade teacher was their favorite. Overall, Ms. Sokolowski received the most votes. Based on that information, we decided to interview her.
Here is how it went.
QUESTION: How does it feel knowing that you’re the favorite teacher?
ANSWER: I feel very happy that I’m the favorite teacher because it shows that kids actually enjoy my teaching and have fun in my class.
QUESTION: Are there any memories about 6th graders from this year you want to share?
ANSWER: My favorite memories from sixth-grade students are watching them learn about new topics and then asking more questions about those topics the next day. It shows they are interested in what we’re learning about.
QUESTION: Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
ANSWER: I was born in Connecticut, but my family moved to Southlake, Texas, outside of Dallas, when I was about two. That is where I lived until I came to Austin for college.
QUESTION: Where did you go to school?
ANSWER: I went to high school at Southlake Carroll, and I went to college at the University of Texas.
QUESTION: What would you have been if you weren’t a teacher?
ANSWER: If I weren’t a teacher, I would have liked to be a nurse or a social worker.
QUESTION: Did you ever regret becoming a teacher?
ANSWER: No, I like being a teacher. Even when the days are difficult, I know it is better than a boring job, like being an office worker.
QUESTION: What was your dream job when you were younger?
ANSWER: When I was really little, like in elementary school, I wanted to be a model or Miss America.
QUESTION: What is your favorite memory from all of your years teaching?
ANSWER: When I was teaching at Akins High School, we all watched the solar eclipse one day. It was really funny watching the kids experience that as high schoolers because they were super interested in it.
