Should Soccer Be Called Football and American Football Be Called Soccer?
Soccer is played by two teams of 11 players. The goal is to score by getting the ball into the opponent’s net within two 45-minute halves. Players cannot use their hands or arms, except for the goalkeeper inside the penalty area. There is also a rule called offside. This happens when an attacking player without the ball is behind the last defender closest to the goal, not counting the goalkeeper. The player must be on the defending team’s side of the field for it to be offside.
American football is a 60-minute game with four 15-minute quarters. It is played between two teams of 11 players, and the goal is to score more points by advancing the ball 100 yards into the opponent’s end zone. The offense has four downs to advance at least 10 yards. Teams can score with touchdowns, which are worth 6 points, field goals, which are worth 3 points, or safeties, which are worth 2 points.
